Cloncrane is a central base for exploring Ireland, with  a wealth of activities right on the doorstep. Charming villages and stunning scenery surround you as you travel the highways and byways of Offaly. 
Fairs, Festivals, Harvest Trashing, Tractor Runs are held in just about every village throughout the summer. You will be spoilt for choice on what to do next. 
We have 10 golf courses within 20 miles, a parachute club 2 miles away, shooting and fishing which can be arranged. Pony trekking and equestrian centre just up the road and then we have the rest...... ​

Water Activities
Grand Canal Sports offer a variety of sports and leisure activities along the Grand Canal including Kayaking, Cycling & Fishing. Along with providing membership packages in each of the above disciplines they also hire out Kayaks, Bicycles & Fishing Gear. Based in Daingean - 7 miles away on the Tullamore to Edenderry road. 

Tullamore Canoe Club offer a range of activities from  kayaking, canoe polo, freestyle, slalom to canoe sailing. They run training courses for open canoeing, kayaking, rolling clinics, 1st Aid, and also do social trips on various rivers and lakes.

Nature Reserves
Lough Boora Parklands
The parklands consist of a magnificant collection of natural & manmade lakes, wetlands, woodland areas, 50km of walkways, natural recolonisation and pastureland whilst providing a new habitat for wildlife,  flora & fauna.

The Bog of Allen Nature Centre - 14.6 Miles (23.4 KM)
The Bog of Allen Nature Centre is managed by the IPCC (Irish Peatland Conservation Council) charity group. This region features wild bog land along with additional elements that celebrate daily life in traditional Ireland. Get closer to the land and its people by exploring this fascinating bog.

Clara Bog 
It has been said you can experience ten thousand years of history when you pay a visit to Clara Bog. One of the best examples of a raised bog in Western Europe. 

Explore the unique plant life and watch the animal life  that inhabit the bog. The small bird of prey, the merlin breeds hers as does the curlew. Peregrine falcons are known to hunt over the bog and hen harriers are frequently seen in autumn and winter.  Try and catch a glimpse of an Irish hare, fox, and pine marten who call the bog home. Clara bog is also known for rare species. the dark tussock moth, two rare midge species and a click beetle. The bog is home to many rare, endangered and protected species. 


Horse riding 
In the heart of Ireland's prime horse breeding area, the rich pastures are home to many stud farms and leading equestrian centres like Anna Harvey, but for the holiday rider there are also the trails of the Slieve Blooms to explore in the saddle (or on foot if you prefer)

Fishing 
Ireland's prime pike fishing river runs along the borders of the Cloncrane lands, but you can also find good lake fishing, coarse fishing from Bream, Rudd and hybrids to the noble trout.

  • The ancient Monastic site of Clonmacnoise (c 40 miles)

  • Belvedere House, gardens and park
  • Slieve Bloom mountains and their excellent walking trails

Riding, golf, coarse and trout fishing, shooting, and the Irish parachute club are all available in the area and can be arranged by us.

Of course many of our guests see this as the perfect base for exploring Ireland, but find a whole holiday on their doorstep and come back time and time again.
